movieMondays: Waste Land (2010) In-Person
Waste Land (2010) is a documentary following artist Vik Muniz as he travels to Jardim Gramacho, Brazil's largest garbage dump, to photograph "catadores"—or self-designated pickers of recyclables—and creates large-scale art portraits from the garbage they collect.
The film documents the residents' resilience and dignity as they begin to re-imagine their lives through their collaboration with Muniz, ultimately revealing the transformative power of art and the human spirit.
